Micro-credit
FUUB Microcredit is an affinity group of First U dedicated to raising funds and awareness for Microcredit projects globally. Depending on the country, microenterprises employ an estimated 30-80 percent of the working population. Microcredit enables people to work their way out of poverty. Small amounts of capital—typically $50 to $300—can make the difference between absolute poverty and a thriving little business generating enough income to feed the family, send kids to school, and build decent housing. As economist Milton Friedman once said that “the poor stay poor, not because they’re lazy, but because they have no access to capital.”
FUUB Microcredit is currently working to fund our 3rd and 4th microcredit banks in Haiti through FINCA’s Village Banking program (www.villagebanking.org). Join us on our annual Mother’s Day Walkathon and for other events throughout the year.
