OBOSOL
Unitarian Universalists have long been at the forefront of the struggle for gender and sexuality equality. This year found our state and our nation at a tipping point where goals we have hoped to achieve for many years appeared to be within reach. Our Bodies, Our Spirits, Our Lives (OBOSOL) is First Unitarian’s first social justice project, which applies our progressive faith’s values toward justice issues pertaining to sex and sexuality discrimination.
OBOSOL strives to make our congregation a more welcoming place to people of all gender and sexuality identities in every facet of congregation life. During the inaugural year of this project, we have worked to be an incubator for witness, action, advocacy, and awareness by leading worship services, being present at social justice actions and protests, and providing positive sexual education for all ages through the Religious Education program Our Whole Lives. In the 2010-11 we plan to continue to nurture a relationship with the Ali Forney Center — an organization that supports LGBT homeless youth — through volunteerism and community service.
As the committee leading First U’s first service project, we are excited about all that we have accomplished this year and even more excited about our plans for the future. Please stop by our table in the undercroft after service to ask us how to get involved!
