Sunday, May 4th, 11:00AM – Flower Communion

2014 April 16
by DoMC

Celebrating Flower Communion is an opportunity for Unitarian Universalist congregations to recommit to our Sixth Principle: We covenant to affirm and promote the goal of world community with peace, liberty and justice for all. The Flower communion service was created in 1923 by Unitarian minister Norbert Capek, who founded the Unitarian Church in Czechoslovakia. When the Nazis took control of Prague in 1940, they found Dr. Capek’s gospel of the inherent worth of every human person to be dangerous and sent him to Dachau, where he was killed. Capek suffered a cruel death, but his message of hope and decency lives on through his Flower Communion. This UU ceremony binds us to people of our faith around the world.

Please arrive for worship with a flower to share for this uniquely Unitarian Universalist ceremony celebrating the arrival of spring and the dream of global peace and justice. During flower communion, we recognize that we are each as unique as the flowers that we share and that without each other, our bouquet would be incomplete.

This is a perfect day to invite a friend!
