Sunday, April 13th, 11:00AM – Palm Sunday Music Service

For many years it has been the tradition of First Untarian to offer a music service on Palm Sunday.  This year, The First Unitarian Choir will offer Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cantata 79, Gott, der Herr, ist Sonn’ und Schild (God, the Lord, is our Sun and Shield).  One of Bach’s most stirring and majestic works, this six movement cantata is scored for choir, soloists, and chamber orchestra.  It was composed and first performed inLeipzig in 1725 for Reformation day.  From the thrilling opening horn fanfares to the closing chorale asking for the gifts of truth and freedom, it is Baroque music of the very highest order.  Our program will also include several other vocal and instrumental works by Bach.  Soprano Marielle Murphy, mezzo soprano Melissa Paul, tenor K’idar Miller, and baritone Andrew Cook – Feltz will be featured.  Join us for one of the musical highlights of the church year!
