FESTIVAL OF ENVIRONMENTALLY THEMED MUSIC AND FILM BEGINS IN FEBRUARY
The Sustainability Committee wishes to inform First UU members and friends about an Brooklyn based festival of environmentally-themed music and film called “Paradigm Shifts: Bridging the Soul and the Mind to Protect Our Planet.” A complete schedule of events can be found at environmentaleducationfund.org. Of special interest is Bidder 70, a celebrated documentary about Unitarian Universalist environmental activist Tim DeChristopher, who derailed a government auction of pristine wilderness to energy interests. Also scheduled are works about reforestation efforts in Kenya; the struggling ecosystem of New York Harbor, and the locals who are trying to bring back the oysters; and the Kogi Indians of present-day Colombia and their efforts to warn post-industrial society of its follies. Kyrgyz folk musicians will be performing regional music at a movie screening about Kyrgyz women building sustainable economies in their villages in central Asia, . All performances/screenings are at the Actors Fund Arts Center at 160 Schermerhorn Street, between February 26th and March 9th. Tickets to most events are available online for $6.25 (Use discount code EEF). If you have a particular presentation you’re itching to see, contact David Meadow (dnmeadow@hotmail.com) and we can talk about coordinating an outing together.
