TLC Peer Support Group
Please note: THE TLC SUPPORT GROUP IS CURRENTLY ON HIATUS. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN GETTING INVOLVED PLEASE CONTACT ALEXANDRA.DEVIN@GMAIL.COM
The Pastoral Care Team sponsors a peer support group for anyone going through tough times of transition and/or loss who needs community and caring, hence: TLC.
While we all attend First U in times of both joy and sorrow, for many of us our sorrows may be silent. It is one thing to share good news at coffee hour. It can be very difficult, however, to be in need of support, and to reach out to others and be heard in that casual setting. The TLC Peer Support Group offers an alternative way of connecting to others in your community. Come once or once in a while, for a few weeks or every week. Come if you are reeling from the widespread trauma of natural or man-made disaster, or if you are struggling through something more personal, such as the death of a loved one, the loss of a relationship or job, the stress of being a caretaker or living with an illness, or going through a life transition. Come if you just need a shoulder to cry on, someone to hold your hand, someone to listen, or just to check in with people in your community who care.
The TLC Peer Support Group meets weekly on Wednesdays from 6:15pm-7:30pm in the Library.
The weekly facilitator is Alexa Vicich, MA Candidate Sept 2013 (Drama Therapy), with Sally Ellis, PhD (Clinical Psychology) and Nancy Welles, MA (Divinity) serving occasionally as back-ups.
TLC is an open and ongoing weekly group. Sometimes we just sit and talk, and sometimes we get a little more creative. You can make a commitment to come every week, or just come once in a while when you think you need it. You can even just drop in once to see who we are and what we do. All concerns will be kept confidential. If it will be your first time coming, please RSVP to Alexa at adv3@nyu.edu or 347-730-7356.
