Religious Education Classes for Children and Youth
RE Programs 2025-2026
Nursery/Toddlers (ages 0-2)
Age appropriate baby and toddler care is available every Sunday. We provide an active, fun, and creative space for toddlers. The children have opportunities for structured learning through stories and songs, as well as plenty of time for free play.
Pre-Kindergarten (ages 3 and 4) – Chalice Children
Chalice Children experience the principles and values of Unitarian Universalism through imagination and creativity. This class includes stories, crafts, and music and is a wonderful way for young children to get used to being in class on Sunday mornings and helps to prepare them for more formal Religious Education classes which begin in Kindergarten.
Kindergarten / First Grade – Love Surrounds Us
At the core of our Unitarian Universalist community are our seven Principles. The Principles encompass all the ingredients of a good and faith-filled life based on equality, freedom, peace, acceptance, truth, care, and love. This program explores these Principles in the context of Beloved Community of family/home, school, neighborhood.
Second / Third Grade – Moral Tales
Moral Tales provides children with the spiritual and ethical tools they will need to make choices and take actions reflective of their Unitarian Universalist values. Each session has a central story in which participants meet real and fictional heroes and heroines who have displayed moral courage and spiritual greatness.
Fourth / Fifth Grades – Toolbox of Faith
Toolbox of Faith invites participants to reflect on the qualities of our Unitarian Universalist faith, such as integrity, courage, and love, as tools they can use in living their lives and building their own faith. Each of the 16 sessions uses a tool as a metaphor for an important quality of our faith such as reflection (symbolized by a mirror), flexibility (duct tape), and justice (a flashlight).
Sixth / Seventh Grades – Building Bridges
Building Bridges is a World Religions learning program to broaden participants knowledge of humanity and embolden their spiritual search. This exploration nurtures participants’ positive outlook toward other faiths and the people who follow them.
Eighth / Ninth Grade – Coming of Age
As youth leave childhood and enter their teen years, we honor this transition with the Coming of Age program. Coming of Age is a yearlong curriculum that helps teens to learn more about Unitarian Universalism and articulate their own beliefs. Participants explore theology, spirituality, and history. Each youth is paired with an adult mentor from the congregation. The program concludes with a Sunday morning worship service that features the youth sharing their statements of personal belief (credo statements).
High School Youth Group (Grades 10, 11, &12)
The High School Youth meet each week after worship to discuss questions of faith, community, belonging, and identity. They participate in the life of the congregation through attending worship services and engaging in social action projects. The group goes on an annual service trip to West Virginia each summer.
