Community
The First Unitarian Congregational Society (First U) has been meeting in Brooklyn Heights since 1833 and worshiping in our Gothic Revival sanctuary since 1844.
We believe that spiritual growth occurs everywhere, especially in relationships and connections with others. We provide many opportunities for individual and collective spiritual growth at First U through participation in Sunday morning worship, conversations during our fellowship hour with fair-trade coffee & tea, small-group interaction, forums and workshops on issues of justice and concern, as well as additional opportunities for social engagement with new friends.
Our Right Relations Covenant informs our behavior toward one another. We agree to be kind, fair, and responsible and to “assume good intentions” in all of our interactions.
We welcome families of all shapes and sizes with children of all ages. We have a vibrant Religious Education program, an active coming-of-age program for middle school students, and childcare for the youngest members of our community.
We welcome queer people to our congregation to participate fully as part of our community, our celebrations, and our collective efforts to advance social justice.
Membership Coordinator Tyrone Davis, Jr., is available to help you find activities that bring you joy. Tyrone can be reached at tyrone@firstubrooklyn.org.
