Adult Spiritual Development
At First Unitarian, we believe that spiritual exploration is a lifelong exercise. Our children and youth develop their faith through regular Sunday school classes. Adults have opportunities for ongoing spiritual development through classes, programs, discussion groups, and more throughout the program year.
Covenant Groups: Members of Covenant Groups meet monthly to explore spirituality through structured discussion, group trust, and support. Registration is limited and all members and friends of the congregation (including newcomers) are welcome to participate. Registration for each group closes one week before the start of the group. This year members and friends have the opportunity to participate in five different covenant groups each with its own special focus.
Classes & Workshops: Every year our staff and leaders offer classes of special interest to our members and friends. Classes range from deep dives into Unitarian Universalist History and Theology, programs exploring issues of race, class, and culture, film screenings and discussions, and more. Classes and class registration are announced in the Order of Service and the weekly e-news.
Pathways: This 5-hour program is especially developed for new members or people who are moving toward membership in the congregation. Participants will prepare to become active, vibrant members of our community through exploration of their individual spiritual journeys and deeper understanding of UU history and theology. The class will include group activities and discussions, an optional tour of the building – even the dark, secret parts – and special guest appearances.
Affinity and Connection Groups: Monthly discussion groups, and programs are regularly scheduled by the Queer Caucus, Women’s Leadership Alliance, Young Adult Ministry, and others. For more information about the groups, please contact Garnett Losak (garnett@fuub.org).
